The bulk of the weight comes from water. Water is the most abundant substance in your body. It makes up 60% of your total body mass, which is why water weighs a lot. This makes the average person weigh around 60 kilograms. This is roughly the equivalent of a six pack of beer. The amount of water in your body is regulated by the kidneys. Blood passes through the kidneys and picks up sodium, potassium, and chloride. The kidneys then filter out the excess water and send the remaining water back to the circulatory system to be circulated throughout the body. The job of the kidneys is to maintain water balance by eliminating the excess water.
