Cooking tamales is one of my favorite ways to celebrate my Mexican heritage. One day, I decided to make tamales without using a steamer, and it was a lot of fun to see if I could do it. My mom always used a steamer for cooking tamales, but I had never used one myself. I have a traditional, Mexican-style tamale steamer that has a covered, food-safe, ceramic container for steaming tamales. I used that, but I also used a regular microwave to steam the tamales. I found that you can make tamales without using a steamer, but the process is much longer and more difficult than making tamales with a steamer. The microwave works, but it’s not as easy and convenient as the traditional way. There are a few things that you need to take into account if you’re going to make tamales without using a steamer.

Traditionally, tamales are steamed in a tamale steamer, a traditional tool used to cook tamales. But you don’t need a tamale steamer to cook a delicious tamale. Here’s a simple tamale recipe from the great state of New Mexico that you can make at home.

How To Cook Tamales

These are a great way to serve tamales on the 4th of July. The good news is that you don’t need a steamer to cook them. The bad news is that they have a long cooking time, so plan to have a barbecue, or if you’re lucky, your neighbors might be willing to help. You’ll need corn husks, cheesecloth, hot sauce and flour. Wash the corn husks, remove the corn cobs and de-seed. Place them in a large bowl and cover with hot water to soak. The water must be over 150 degrees, or the husks will burn. Soak the corn husks until they are very pliable. If you’re going to be cooking more than one tamale, you’ll need some plastic wrap to separate them. Wrap the tamale inside a piece of corn husk, place a folded piece of plastic wrap on top of that and fold the bottom up to hold in the tamale. Set the tamale on a plate and cover with a second piece of corn husk. Make sure that the tamale is wrapped tightly so that it doesn’t leak during the cooking process.

Can Tamales Be Frozen?

Tamales can be frozen just like other foods. Simply freeze the tamales on a rimmed baking sheet. They will keep for up to three months. The tamales will become soft after you defrost them, but they won’t lose their shape. You can eat them right out of the freezer, or thaw them completely for another tamale feast.

Also, if you don’t want to use any red chili powder or green chili powder, that’s perfectly fine. I just think it’s more fun to have it there.
