Cooking a crown roast pork is one of the most common ways of preparing pork in Nigeria. If you have never cooked one, here is a simple recipe that you can try.
How to Cook
Crown pork is a wonderful cut of meat. It’s juicy, tasty, and you can cook it in just about any way you want. While it’s not the most inexpensive cut of meat, it’s really easy to cook and is a crowd pleaser! Plus, there are lots of ways to serve crown pork, including sandwiches, stews, and the most popular, pork chops. So, let’s get cooking!
How to Preheat
Preheating is the process of placing the oven at the desired temperature and allowing it to come up to temperature. The benefits of preheating are that it allows the oven to get the desired temperature faster and provides a more even baking temperature. Make sure the oven is unplugged. If you have an electric oven, flip the switch to the ON position. Wait for the temperature to stabilize before preheating the oven.
How to Serve
Crown pork roast is a large roast of pork that has been cut into 4 parts. This is then stacked, forming a crown shape, so it looks like a crown! As with many other roasts, the crown roast is usually cooked in a slow cooker so that it can be served as the main course of a meal. However, if you have a larger oven or stovetop, then it is possible to cook a crown roast in the oven.
Leftovers
I’m sure you’re familiar with the saying “leftovers are good.” The key to making the most out of leftovers is to use them to make a new dish. There’s nothing wrong with making a simple dinner out of yesterday’s leftover chicken, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do in today’s recipe.
Directions
To cook a crown roast, first decide on a side. Next, peel back the excess fat from the roast. Cut the fat layer into large strips. Now, cut the roast in to approximately 4 equal pieces. Use the fat strips to fill the inside of the oven. Cook the roast in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes per pound. If you’d like a nice crust, you can turn on the broiler for the last 5 minutes. Serve on a bed of sautéed spinach, roasted red bell peppers, and carrots.
