How Long Do You Cook a Lasagna?

Lasagna is an Italian dish made with pasta sheets baked in a tomato sauce and topped with cheese. The first recorded lasagna was created in the Roman Empire, and it was originally made by bakers who would take the dough and fill it with hot water to heat it before baking it. In the early 1900s, lasagna started being made from sheets of pasta, and they were baked in a tomato-based sauce. However, lasagna doesn’t always have to be baked, and it can be enjoyed warm, cold, or straight from the freezer. The first recorded lasagna recipe was created by a woman named Maria Ruggiero who wrote a recipe in her 1930 book titled Everyday Italian Cooking. She included a recipe for a lasagna that was baked in a tomato sauce, but the pasta was made from sheets. The dish would be topped with mozzarella and tomato sauce, and then the pasta sheets would be folded over to create a lasagna shape. The pasta sheets would also be topped with cheese and covered with mozzarella and tomato sauce. This dish would then be baked in a large casserole dish until it was cooked through. Lasagna is most often baked in a shallow dish. However, the pasta sheets will not bake in the dish, but will instead be topped with the tomato sauce and baked separately.
