Is Chicken Good for Crock Pot?

Can You Cook a Whole Chicken in a Crock Pot? is usually one of the first questions I am asked about making chicken in a Crock Pot. Even though chicken is one of the best proteins to cook in a Crock Pot it is still very easy to overcook chicken in the cooker. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture of this one but here is a link to the recipe below. I was having dinner with some good friends and my cousin was making this recipe as we were talking. She told me that she did not get a picture of her chicken because she doesn’t want to share this recipe since it is her family recipe and that she did not want to ruin the surprise. I was a little surprised that she didn’t want to share her recipe because I love her cooking. So it turns out that her family doesn’t share the recipe. Not too sure if I can share it with you as I do not have the recipe yet.

How to Make Crock Pot Brine

First, you will need to make a brine. This can be done using your favorite recipe online or by following the instructions on the package. A good amount is about 6 cups of salt and 3 cups of water. Combine salt and water in a pot. Cook on medium heat for about 30 minutes. You want to make sure that the salt and water are dissolved. At this point you can strain the brine and save it to use for other recipes or to add to the crock pot. To add the brine to the chicken, use a large enough stock pot to hold all of the ingredients. You will want to add the chicken to the crock pot first. Next add the chicken to the pot and the brine.

What to Cook in a Crock Pot

This recipe is a good example of what you can do with a crock pot. All you need is a whole chicken, about 4 cups of chicken broth and 3 tablespoons of butter. You should set it for four hours on low in the crock pot. In the meantime, chop up 4 carrots and two celery stalks and put them in the pot. Also, add a bay leaf and a few sprigs of thyme. Cut up 2 onions and add them. When the chicken is done, remove it and add the vegetables. Boil the broth until it’s reduced by half. Add the vegetables, let it cook for about 20 minutes, then remove the chicken and put it back in the pot. Add the butter and stir together. This recipe will provide you with enough to feed 6 people.

A Crock Pot Should be your First choice for Dinner

The first is that chicken is normally best cooked on a low temperature for about 4 hours. Cooking it at a high temperature for this amount of time can lead to the chicken drying out and being tough. The other great thing about a crock pot is that you can put it on overnight and wake up to a delicious meal. I’m not sure about you, but that’s the type of thing I’m all about.
