Why do People Become Anorexic?

Anorexic people have a distorted view of their body and often look down on themselves. They may exercise excessively, become obsessed with the number on the scale, or even fantasize about death. In the most extreme cases, anorexic people can starve themselves to death. Anorexia typically starts between the ages of 12 and 16, and is often triggered by a stressful life event. Anorexia is more common in females than in males, and is often treated in children’s hospitals. Anorexia is not a disease that people just get sick of eating. People with this disorder have a distorted body image and usually feel ashamed or depressed. People who have anorexia typically see their bodies as disgusting, but they also see themselves as beautiful. Anorexia is a serious condition that needs medical treatment. Some people recover on their own, but in most cases it can take years of treatment to feel better.
