Am I Puking Bile?

If you have nausea or vomiting after eating, you may be puking bile. Bile is a substance that is released by your liver. It’s made up of water, bile salts, bile pigments, and some electrolytes. A normal liver produces about two cups of bile per day. There are two main types of bile, called green and yellow. Green bile is yellow bile that has been cleared from the liver and mixed with water and electrolytes. Yellow bile is the bile left over from the liver and contains pigments. When the bile gets into the intestines, it becomes a liquid called chyme. This can then be absorbed by the stomach and into the blood.

If your symptoms are unrelated to an existing condition, your doctor can perform a procedure to remove any blockage in your digestive system.
