How to Make Whole Food Plant Based Bread

Having found a local baker that prepares bread using whole grains, sprouted grains, and fresh organic ingredients we decided to purchase a few loaves of bread to try. The loaves came in the traditional size of a baguette, so we opted for a loaf to see how it would fit into our diet. First impressions were not the best. The bread tasted very sweet and it was a challenge to try and get a hole in the crust. We couldn’t get a good hold on the bread either, and the bread slid out of the holes in the bread pan. The bread itself was dense, heavy, and didn’t taste like a whole wheat bread we grew up eating. We were not happy with the bread at all. Our next step was to research the bread and discover what we were buying into. When we looked into the bread we were purchasing, we learned that it was made from white flour, barley malt, and other “healthy” ingredients. This bread was not whole grain, sprouted, or made with organic ingredients. Also, when we thought of bread, we automatically think of a loaf of bread. A baguette bread is different from a loaf bread. Even though we didn’t like the loaves, we continued to look for loaves that tasted better and did not include white flour, barley malt, or other ingredients. What are the Benefits?

Whole food plant based bread has become very popular in the past few years. It is a healthier and more nutritious alternative to regular bread. It contains all the essential nutrients and fibers from the plant, such as vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Plant based bread contains a higher proportion of fiber than regular bread, which can help you feel fuller for longer. This is especially beneficial to those who need to maintain a healthy weight. Whole food plant based bread is also much lower in saturated fats than traditional bread. This means that it can help you avoid heart disease. In addition, it contains no artificial ingredients, preservatives, or harmful additives. Lastly, it contains no gluten, which makes it an even healthier option for those with gluten sensitivity.

Why Bread?

Eating bread, especially the bread products we have in America is something of a mystery to me. We take this simple food and fill it with preservatives and some hidden ingredients. Bread is something that is definitely a staple in America and for good reason. It’s an incredibly simple food, it can be made in minutes and even frozen. However, I’ve come to find that bread is one of the most unhealthy foods that we can eat. Bread is a great way to add protein and fiber to our diets, but many of the bread products we buy are more of a combination of processed sugars and white flour than a whole food. So what are whole grain breads and breads made with whole wheat flour? Well, they are more nutritious and filling. They don’t contain as much sugar and they are filling and satisfying.

What is Plant Based Bread?

Plant based bread is just bread that doesn’t contain any animal products. These animal products include milk, eggs, and honey. So, for example, a common recipe for plant based bread is to combine whole wheat flour, yeast, water, and salt. The bread will then rise as the yeast converts the sugar in the flour into carbon dioxide gas. This can take a few hours, but after this time period, the bread can be baked and enjoyed. Plant based bread is made using a number of different flours. Many plant based breads use gluten free flours because they’re easier for people with gluten allergies to eat. These flours are normally made from ground nuts, legumes, oats, or rice. They can also be made from blends of different flours that are combined to make a dough that can then be baked.

Who Wants Bread?

Whole-grain breads contain the complete complex carbohydrate and fiber that our bodies need to function. They are also rich in vitamins and minerals. In addition, most whole-grain breads are made with a mix of grains that vary in composition. They also contain less sugar, sodium, and fat than their refined counterparts. In comparison, refined breads have more refined grains, fewer vitamins and minerals, and are usually made with just white flour.
