Can we afford to make ham?

I am not sure if the answer is yes or no. America’s food supply is much more precarious than it was years ago. It may seem like we have enough food, but what if the climate changes, we have a pandemic, or there is another oil shock?

What is whole country ham

As a basic definition, whole country ham is just a type of ham. But, that’s where the similarity ends. Whole country ham is generally thicker than regular ham. It tends to have a rich, robust flavor. And, it is made from hogs that are raised on large, open pastures. The ham is cured for about a year and is typically sold at a lower price. Some types of whole country ham, like Smithfield, have a lower salt content than regular ham. Some other types of whole country ham, like Cumberland, are often processed at a higher temperature to dry them out.
