Pizza is one of the world’s most popular foods. Many people around the world love to eat it. And no wonder, it’s delicious. In fact, pizza might just be the best food ever. Of course, the first pizza wasn’t made from dough. It was made from sourdough. And it was originally baked over an open fire. No oven was used back then, and it was certainly not found in a restaurant. It was just a way of serving bread to hungry people.
Ancient Romans ate pizza
Pizza is believed to have been invented by the ancient Romans. The Romans called the dish “pizze”, a word that comes from the Latin for pizza. The Roman emperor Vespasian is often credited as the inventor of pizza. In his famous letter he said “I am sending you some of our peculiar [Roman] dish called pizza…” He described it as a kind of flatbread made with dough and placed on a warm hearth. Others attribute the invention to Giuseppe Rangone.
