What Is Sinusitis?
Sinusitis is a common respiratory infection that affects the sinus cavities, the air spaces inside your nose. Sinusitis usually affects both sides of your nose and your sinus cavities. Sinusitis is a common condition in which the sinuses become infected and inflamed. The sinuses are air-filled cavities in the head located just below the eyes and just behind the nose. These air-filled spaces are used to help the body’s immune system fight off infections. The sinuses are also connected to the nose, so when an infection or other problem occurs in the nose, it can affect the sinuses. When the sinuses become blocked, it can cause symptoms such as headache, itchy and runny nose, sinus pressure or pain, sore throat, and fever.
Do It Now! Do It Before It Is Too Late
Your nose is a gateway to the rest of your body. In fact, it has 20,000 small hair-like tubes that lead to your sinuses, nose and throat. The nose is where our senses of smell and taste originate. If your nose doesn’t drain properly, you can develop problems with your sense of smell. And, if your nose is plugged, you can develop sinus infections, colds and other respiratory problems. The sinuses have multiple small openings called ostia. These openings are connected to the inside of your nose, and most are blocked by dried mucus. This is why you may have a chronic problem with drainage or feel pain when you blow your nose. If your sinuses are blocked, you can develop sinusitis, a sinus infection. To fix your sinuses, you need to remove the mucus and clear the ostia.
