After a few days, you decide that you want to make some changes, but you’re afraid of going back to how you used to be. You’re afraid of feeling worse and losing more weight. So, you try to cut back on your drinking. But you’re still really thirsty and you’re feeling pretty low. You want to go back to drinking again, but you want to be able to feel a little better after you drink. How can you make healthy changes? Here are some things to think about. We have all done this at least once. It is easy to convince yourself that you will never get over a binge, but trust us, you will. When a binge starts, we begin to eat without really thinking about what we are eating or how much we are eating. We are in a kind of emotional state where we lose control over our actions. This is actually a good thing, because if we could control ourselves, we would have a much harder time going through life full of unnecessary stress. However, we can’t go on like this forever. The trick is to take action right after you’ve eaten your binge food. Eating is a good thing, but it can also be addictive. So, after you have finished eating, take the time to have a good cry. This will help to release the chemicals in your brain that are causing you to feel all the good feelings and feel bad. After you have cried, take a shower. It is easy to keep eating after you are finished cleaning up. Try to eat something that is healthy, so that you aren’t eating the same thing over and over again. After you are done eating, have a good cry again, and do some stretching. This will help to reduce your stress levels.

Usually the major problem with binge eating is that once you’ve eaten a large amount, it is hard to stop yourself. After a binge, you’ll typically feel the following:
1. Hunger, so you’ll eat again.
2. Emotions like anxiety or stress. This may also make you feel like bingeing.
3. Depressed or a loss of energy.
4. Thoughts like, “I can’t stop myself.”
5. Preoccupation with food or eating.
6. It might be hard to concentrate or to follow instructions.
7. Upset stomach or nausea.
8. Feelings of guilt, shame, or remorse.
The way to avoid this is to actually stop and ask yourself, “What are the consequences of binge eating?”
You’re not going to be able to control your eating if you don’t acknowledge these feelings. You may also feel guilty or ashamed of your feelings. However, you can’t change your feelings of guilt. Instead, you can try to replace those feelings of guilt with a feeling of compassion for yourself. This is called self-compassion, and is much more helpful than guilt.
