Licorice is a very sweet and delicious candy made from the root of the plant Glycyrrhiza glabra, which is native to China and Eastern Europe. It has a rich flavor and a sweet, sticky consistency. In the film, the main character is a fictional New York City chef who travels to Italy to meet a female client. However, he is only interested in one part of the candy—the dried root, which he uses in a dessert that includes the candy and the milk of two cows. The film shows the chef finding a store that sells real licorice, going to the store, buying the root and doing everything he does for the cooking of the dessert.
