The frontal lobe is the main part of the brain that controls the cognitive control. This area is made up of different parts, which are divided into different parts called the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), the medial frontal cortex, and the anterior cingulate cortex. Because it is so important, researchers are interested in learning more about how the frontal lobe affects cognitive control. A research study was conducted to see how the frontal lobe affects cognitive control. In this study, researchers led a number of computer users who had frontal lobe damage to complete a task that required them to remember an image for a short period of time. The researchers then monitored their brain activity while they were doing the task. They wanted to see whether there was a difference between the brain activity of people with frontal lobe damage and those who did not have frontal lobe damage. What they found is that the patients with frontal lobe damage had much higher levels of brain activity in the medial frontal cortex and the DLPFC. In other words, the patients with frontal lobe damage seemed to have a hard time controlling their thoughts, which is called a frontal lobe dysfunction. This seems to indicate that the frontal lobe plays a key role in cognitive control, and it also shows that people with frontal lobe damage have problems with it.
