What Do Low Calorie Snacks Taste Like?

So, it turns out that calories are important, not only for how much we eat, but for how we feel. A study in the journal Appetite looked at how women feel about snacks and found that they feel more satisfied with snacks that don’t have a high calorie count. To understand why this is the case, the researchers looked at what the women were eating when they were feeling satisfied and unsatisfied. When they were feeling satisfied, the women chose snack foods that had a lower calorie count. These snack foods were full of sugar, salty, and/or high in fat, while the snacks that they picked when they weren’t feeling satisfied had more calories, were low in sugar, and/or high in fiber and protein. The reason that the women chose the snacks that they did was that they wanted the snack to taste good. The study didn’t look at what the women chose when they were hungry.
