Tom Hanks shared the recipe for his favorite two-ingredient cocktail that he created almost by accident. The actor appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert where he prepared his “Diet Cokagne.”

The bubbly cocktail recipe—the new “Hanks family tradition”—didn’t seem appealing to Colbert, however, after a sip of the drink, he seemed to enjoy it. The “Diet Cokagne” also conquered other television celebrities who replicated Hanks’ recipe.

The Academy Award winner told Colbert what he did on his vacation. Hanks said he and his wife Rita Wilson visited Cafe Carlyle in New York City where they were brought a “celebratory bottle of champagne.”

“I’m not a big drinker, so I usually have a Diet Coke,” the actor said. “So I have a little bit of caffeine, Diet Coke in a glass, and I sip it through the night.”

Hanks added that he felt like having a drink that night. They brought him the champagne, the pretty flutes, and he only had Diet Coke.

But, that night, Hanks was in the mood for a drink. So he added some champagne to his cola and found the drink delicious. “Everyone said, ‘You’re crazy. I said, ‘Well, I may be crazy, but I want to celebrate the season.’

Colbert wanted to try the cocktail, he took out two glasses, a can of Diet Coke and a bottle of champagne.

Hanks noted that the drink can include any cola product, as long as it’s diet, because he has type 2 diabetes. “What is better [para] type 2 diabetes than a little champagne in your Diet Coke”he joked.

The host and Hanks toasted to a “Happy 2023.” To the surprise of the spectators, Colbert enjoyed the cocktail. “It’s really weird and surprising and embarrassingly good because it’s so refreshing. You also give her some caffeine…” he told Hanks.

After the presentation of the cocktail on the Colbert show, there were other celebrities who, somewhat skeptically, decided to try Hanks’ drink. Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager recreated the “Diet Cokagne”. After a sip of the cocktail they recognized that it was “something good.
