It was sausage rolls that first got me into cooking. As a child, I didn’t think I would ever get to eat them, but then, I moved to the United Kingdom and fell in love with them. I grew up eating them on a daily basis, and they have always been a staple of my diet. Now, I’ve been able to try them made with turkey, as well as chicken and lamb. My all-time favorite is still made with beef.

The Ingredients Needed to make Sausage Rolls

The following is a list of the ingredients needed to make sausage rolls. You’ll need:
• 2 eggs
• 4 tbsp of olive oil
• A good quality plain flour
• 60g of butter
• ¼ tsp. salt
• 1 tsp. garlic powder
• 1 tsp. parsley
• A chopping board or large plate
• Sausage rolls tin or rectangular baking tray
• A hot oven
• A frying pan
Start by cracking the eggs into a bowl and whisking them together. Heat up the frying pan on a medium heat. Add the flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir this mixture together and make a well in the center of the flour. Break in the eggs and add the butter. Stir everything together into a batter. Add the parsley. Place the frying pan in the oven for 5 to 10 minutes. It’s ready once the center has slightly set. Remove from the oven and spoon the mixture into the tin or tray, using a spoon. Put the tray in the oven and heat up the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Take the sausage rolls out once the baking tray is hot and brush them with olive oil. Place them in the oven for 10 minutes and serve immediately.

Sausage Rolls Recipe

As mentioned above, Sausage rolls are typically made from yeast dough. The dough can be rolled, flattened and folded many times. The dough is usually filled with stuffing, meat or cheese, and baked to a delicious golden color. Many variations of the recipe exist, but the process is always the same. To make homemade sausage rolls, begin with cold water and yeast. Then combine the yeast, sugar and salt into a large bowl. Add the water, flour and other ingredients and mix together with a wire whisk. The dough should be soft and springy, but not sticky. Once the dough is mixed together, shape it into a ball, cover it with a towel and leave it to rest in a warm place for about an hour. The dough should be doubled in size. After the first hour, the dough should be mixed again. Then lightly dust a work surface with flour and roll the dough out to a thickness of about ¼”. Cut the dough into squares and then cut the square in half diagonally to create two triangles. To roll the triangles, start at the tip and roll them towards the middle of the triangle. Once rolled to the desired size, lightly brush the dough with egg wash. Then cover it with a cloth and let it rest for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, cook the sausage rolls for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.

The Recipe for a Sausage Roll

This recipe is based on a sausage roll that my mum used to make. The ingredients are a simple collection of things that are easily available. You can use sausage rolls or any other type of roll as you like. I used to think that these were a bit of a cheat because of the inclusion of sugar, but actually they’re quite healthy. This is a good recipe for something different. The inclusion of fruit adds a little bit of sweetness and the oil keeps the roll soft.
