My jaw is numb and hurting. But I also feel heat. When I touch my mouth with my tongue, I feel numbness and warmth. These are signs of a mouth cancer called squamous cell carcinoma. You have a 50 to 70 percent chance of developing this cancer in your mouth. Treatment of this cancer depends on the stage of the disease. Surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy are some treatments that can be used to treat this cancer. But you can live with this cancer. Treatment can control the cancer, but it can’t cure it. Treatment of this cancer is successful in more than 90 percent of people.
Symptoms of Mouth Cancer
A mouth cancer diagnosis can be frightening, especially if you aren’t familiar with mouth cancer. The symptoms of mouth cancer are similar to other types of cancer, so it’s important to see your doctor if you notice any changes in your mouth. Here are some of the most common symptoms of mouth cancer:
– Blood or discharge from the nose, mouth or the roof of the mouth
– Difficulty chewing or swallowing
– Swelling or tenderness of the inside of the mouth
– Weight loss or fatigue
– Changes in the color, texture, or shape of the mouth
– Pain or numbness in the jaw or other parts of the head and neck

What Is Mouth Cancer?
Mouth cancer can be caused by tobacco and alcohol, which lead to the formation of oral and oropharyngeal cancer. Oral and oropharyngeal cancer starts in the cells of the tissues that line the mouth and throat. Cancer cells are formed when these tissues become infected with viruses, bacteria, or other types of harmful organisms. Some of the cells that line the inside of the mouth and throat are sensitive to the influence of these infections and can become cancerous. These cells are called squamous cells.
