Roasting a whole chicken is one of the best cooking techniques to enjoy chicken. It makes chicken taste great and the juices that flow from the oven will be full of flavor and aroma. In this article, you will learn how to roast a whole chicken.
Why You Need a Whole Chicken Roasting Pan
For me, the number one kitchen gadget I use is the pan. It’s one of those kitchen essentials that I use a lot and I can’t imagine preparing a meal without it. As you know, roasting a whole chicken takes a lot of space. So, my traditional roasting pan is actually a large oven pan. It’s perfect for roasting a whole chicken as it has plenty of space for the chicken. The advantage of using a pan is that you can place your chicken in the pan and then you just stick it in the oven to roast.
Choosing and Preparing the Chicken
When you roast a whole chicken, you get all the benefits of a traditionally roasted chicken, such as crispy skin and juicy meat. You can also make more chicken for your family and friends with this recipe. You’ll need: A whole chicken (1.8 to 2.4 kilograms or 4 to 5 pounds)
Two teaspoons of salt or eight teaspoons of coarsely ground black pepper
1 tablespoon of oregano
1 teaspoon of garlic powder
2.5-3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
Honey or brown sugar for basting
A hot, oiled oven Preheat oven to 400°F. Remove giblets from cavity of chicken and set aside for another use. Rinse chicken inside and out under cold running water, then pat dry with paper towels. You’ll be cooking the chicken skin side up, so make sure it’s thoroughly dry. Coat a roasting pan with some of the oil. Lay chicken, skin side up, in pan. In a small bowl, combine the salt, pepper, oregano, and garlic powder. Sprinkle over chicken, rubbing the mixture into the skin. Set the chicken aside. Heat the remaining oil in a large skillet over high heat. When the oil is very hot, add the chicken skin side down. Sear the skin for about 5 minutes, until golden brown. Turn the chicken over and transfer the skillet to the oven. Cook for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the internal temperature
How to Cut a Whole Chicken Up
For this step, we’re going to prepare a whole chicken. To begin, wash the chicken and pat it dry with paper towels. Cut off the wings and legs. For the body, remove the skin from the breast and legs. Now, lay the chicken on its side. This is the position you’ll need to cut the breast off. Take a sharp knife and make a straight line down the center of the breast. Using the knife, cut the breast down to the breastbone. Using a table knife, cut through the breastbone. Now, carefully remove the breast from the rest of the chicken. Repeat this process for the legs. Trim the excess fat from the thigh and drumstick. You’re now ready to start cooking.
