The app matches customers with drivers, and both parties can order food using their phones. There are about 25,000 MeNeds drivers across the country, and MeNeds is working to add more restaurants in as many as 500 cities. Kang founded MeNeds in 2012 as a way to stay connected to her daughter in her first year of college. She initially launched the app in college towns in an attempt to provide food delivery as an alternative to student meal plans. Kang went on to apply the MeNeds model to her family’s need for delivery when her parents became ill and needed help caring for them. It was a natural extension of the app, as she realized that MeNeds was not only a practical solution for her family but a way to connect her to her daughter on an even deeper level. When I ask her why she thinks it is so difficult to create real change in the world, she tells me, “There’s just not enough good people out there to make a difference.”
