Fast food companies, like McDonald’s, are taking the food delivery market by storm. McDonald’s has partnered with various delivery companies, such as Grubhub, to provide their customers with fast food. Customers can choose from a menu of various entrees, including salads, sandwiches, and burgers.
What is the Issue in this?
McDonald’s global operations manager, Cesar Conde, has announced that the company is cutting its prices by 20 percent, starting June 16. The cuts are expected to bring down the company’s average global menu prices by about 2 percent, to 16.7 cents per serving. The new menu price includes drinks, food and gratuities, and will apply to all locations.
Why does McDonalds require this?
McDonalds is a huge company, and most of their customers aren’t going to know about the restaurant’s pay scheme. The new pay scheme will require managers to be able to check the pay of their employees on their phone.
What does this mean for McDonalds?
The McDonalds workers will earn $15 an hour. Employees at fast food and grocery stores like Walmart, A&P, and Taco Bell make the minimum wage, currently $7.25 per hour. McDonald’s employees have been demanding higher wages for years. In 2012, the Fight for $15 began after the company rejected unionization efforts. In 2016, McDonald’s workers were involved in a campaign to shut down the company’s entire operations for an entire day.
