According to history, the Emperor of Italy, Vespasian, was once visited by a man named Beppino. He was overjoyed with the range of flavors at the center of his meal and asked the cook if there was anything else he could add. Beppino then replied “yes, you can add licorice.”

Pizza Hut, in 1994, dreamt up the idea of making pizza dough that had the same size and shape as wieners. They called it the Hot Wieners, and tested it on a small scale first. They were looking for something different, and was hoping the wieners would be a good test subject. The pizza was served in the test market, and surprisingly, it was a hit. The pizza was served as a special at Pizza Hut on a small scale, and as a national chain the next year. The wieners were released nationwide in 1996.

Licorice Pizza was an American fast food restaurant. It was founded in the early 1970s by Herb Franklin. Franklin claims that the idea for the restaurant came to him in a dream. In his dream, he saw a pie with a huge amount of chocolate and licorice on top. His first visit to a pizzeria that used a chocolate crust was disappointing. However, he tried it again the next night. His second visit to a pizzeria with a chocolate crust made him fall in love with the idea of chocolate and licorice. He then convinced his wife to join him in starting a pizza restaurant with chocolate and licorice as the main ingredients. The restaurant soon became a huge success. But a few years later, in 1989, a couple of employees at the restaurant were found to be having an affair. This couple was caught taking pictures of the employees with their phones. The pictures were then used as evidence against the workers in a court of law. However, the couple were acquitted after the judge found that there was nothing untoward in the pictures and the couple did not sexually harass the employees. So, was it just a dream or did Herb and his wife really start a restaurant with a chocolate crust made of chocolate and licorice?
