Even before the days of microwave cooking, people relied on steaming as a healthy alternative to conventional cooking. The steam softens vegetables, fruits, and even whole grains, helping to retain nutrients. In addition to retaining nutrients, steaming also helps to preserve some of the vitamins, which would have been destroyed through conventional cooking. If you want to learn how to steam cauliflower in the microwave, check out the video below.
What Is Cauliflower?
Cauliflower is a leafy vegetable that’s grown in many different parts of the world. It’s a type of cabbage that’s low in calories and high in fiber and nutrients. The cauliflower you buy in a supermarket is almost always white, but in the wild, you might find one that has a deep purple or green coloring. Cauliflower is an excellent source of vitamin C and a low-calorie vegetable that has a mild flavor. It’s also a good source of vitamins B and K, potassium, and iron.
How to Steam Cauliflower on the Stovetop
Many people avoid cauliflower, thinking that it’s too hard to prepare. But it’s actually quite simple. You can steam cauliflower simply by cutting the florets from the head of the cauliflower, and placing them in a microwave-safe bowl. Add 1/4 cup of water to the bowl, and microwave the cauliflower for 6-7 minutes. The steam should be released by the time you’re done, and the result should be tender florets.
Benefits Of Cauliflower Steaming
Cauliflower Steaming is one of the easiest ways to prepare cauliflower. Simply mix a few ingredients and toss in the microwave. You’ll get crispy, crunchy, and tender cauliflower in just minutes. Here’s what you’ll need for cauliflower steaming: ¼ cup of water ¼ cup of dairy-free milk ¼ cup of cooked white beans 1 teaspoon of turmeric ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder ½ teaspoon of kosher salt Bring a medium-sized microwave safe bowl with lid. Pour the water into the bowl, and mix in the other ingredients. Turn your microwave on to high, and wait for one minute. Stir the mixture, and microwave for an additional minute or until heated through. Serve immediately.
What Ingredients Do You Need?
Step 1: Get your equipment. Get yourself a large pot and a cutting board. You should also have a vegetable peeler and a knife. You’ll also need to have a microplane grater. You can find these on Amazon. Once you have all of your equipment, place the cauliflower in the microwave, and set the time for 5 minutes. Step 2: Let it go. Make sure you set the microwave on the 10-minute delay. Once the timer has completed, you’ll want to flip the cauliflower to another side. You can either do this by rotating the pot in your microwave, or by moving it to a different oven rack. Step 3: Let it be. You’ll want to let the cauliflower sit for 2-3 minutes, then you’ll want to take it out of the microwave and let it sit for another minute or so. You want to let it sit for 3 minutes total. Step 4: Use your equipment. Once you’ve left the cauliflower sit for the full 3 minutes, it’s time to use your grater and vegetable peeler. This will give you one large florets and a few smaller ones. If you’d like, you can split these into smaller pieces.
