The best tip for smoking tri-tips is to make sure that you have a decent heat source. Try to heat your tri-tip for one hour, then let it smoke for three hours, and then finish smoking for two hours. Use a charcoal grill if you wish, but make sure that you heat it for about an hour. And always have your tri-tip covered when it’s cooking.
