I got really sick of deep frying chicken and went looking for a healthier alternative. I tried making chicken in the oven but the cooking method was so much slower than cooking in a frying pan. I needed to do something faster and easier that doesn’t require a lot of prep work. This is how I oven roast a whole chicken

Preheat the Oven

This simple method will help you ensure your chicken is fully cooked. The best way to preheat the oven is to turn the heat down about 15 degrees. This will reduce the cooking time by about 15%. To prepare the chicken for cooking, remove the wing and drumsticks and set the chicken on a cutting board. Take a large, sharp knife and begin to butterfly the chicken by slicing along both sides of the chicken breastbone. This will allow you to cut the breast into two separate pieces. Remove the tenderloins and set them aside. There are two methods that you can use to cut your chicken into two pieces. You can simply make a small cut along the outer edge of the breast, which will allow you to easily remove the breast piece. Or, you can make a longer cut along the outer edge of the breast. Take your time and carefully remove the breast piece from the bone. Next, remove the wing and drumsticks from the breast, then cut the breast in half, with the bone running through the middle. Remove the thigh portion from the chicken leg and set it aside. Cut the chicken into two halves, by slicing through the breastbone. The bone should run down the center of the breast.

Select a Whole Chicken

Selecting a whole chicken is the first step in roasting the bird. All you need to do is find a whole chicken. You can typically buy them at the supermarket. If you don’t want to do that, you can take it to your butcher and ask them to roast it for you. Next, it’s important to remove the chicken from the packaging and rinse it off under cold water. You want to make sure that the bird is clean before you put it into the oven.

How to Take the Chicken Out of the Oven

Cooking your chicken, no matter how you do it, can be a tricky task. In the video, I’ll show you how to take your bird out of the oven, and how to get it cooked as you like. The first thing you’ll need to do is preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Place your chicken in a roasting pan on the middle rack of the oven. Take your time to make sure the chicken is evenly distributed in the pan. If it’s not, your oven may end up being hot on one side of the pan while the other side is freezing. You want to be able to move the chicken around and flip it over without it sticking. You may want to put a baking dish underneath the roasting pan to catch any drips. Add about 2-3 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the chicken pan. This is to prevent the chicken from sticking. Once you add the oil, sprinkle about 1/2 teaspoon of salt over the surface of the chicken. The salt helps season the chicken, and it also helps the chicken be more evenly cooked.
