What Happens to a Fruit Cake

If you think you have never seen a fruit cake before, think again. As far as I can tell, it’s been around as long as people have been baking. And it’s made with a lot of sugar and nuts. A fruit cake is typically a rich and chewy cake, often soaked with rum or brandy. But there are a number of other interesting facts about this sweet treat. For one, a fruit cake is traditionally made with dried fruit. This is because in the 19th century, people ate a lot of dried fruit. So they used the surplus to make a cake that was both moist and flavorful. Today, the average fruit cake has about half of the fruit it had in the 19th century. You also don’t need a lot of dried fruit to make a fruit cake. Fruit cake can be made with cherries, figs, oranges, plums, apricots, or even dates.
