I’ve been making chocolate covered coffee beans (or at least trying to) for over a decade. I’ve been doing this for coffee. Every time I go back to the store and buy coffee, I try to buy chocolate. It is an expensive habit, but the coffee I make at home is always better than the stuff you get from the coffee shops.
How to Keep Them Fresh
How to keep them fresh? If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to keep coffee beans fresh, consider freezing them. Freeze your beans on a cookie sheet in the freezer overnight or for about 12 hours. Then transfer them to a large resealable bag. Put the bag in the freezer and let them thaw completely. Then place them in a jar or container.
How to Make Really Good Chocolate-Covered Coffee Beans
Coffee beans can be made in a number of different ways, but nothing beats a simple pan of hot oil. Take a batch of beans and throw them in the pan. Use your hand to smash them up, but try to avoid crushing them too much. The goal is to make them less silky, and to allow them to get hot without getting burned. They should be about medium-rare. When you’re done, take the beans out of the pan and set them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle a bit of unsweetened cocoa powder over the top of the beans. Let them sit for a few minutes to harden, and then pour the rest of the cocoa powder into the pan. Let it melt until the top layer looks like chocolate. Then, mix together with a spoon and pour the mixture onto the beans. Let them sit for a minute or so, then flip over onto a cutting board to cool.
Decorating the Beans
If you like to decorate the beans and let them rest for a while, this can be a fun activity. It’s really up to you how you do this. You can do it with a paper bag or wrap the beans in something to keep them together. If you do this, be sure to keep them out of the fridge or freezer and keep them at room temperature.
Mixing Method
Chocolate covered coffee beans add a different dimension to an already delicious hot beverage. The following recipe is very easy to make, and it requires only two ingredients. You’ll need a coffee grinder, and the beans you want to cover in chocolate. Start by grinding the beans in a coffee grinder. Place a coffee filter inside the coffee grinder. Grind the coffee beans inside the coffee grinder until they’re half the original size. Once they’re done grinding, add 1/3 cup of your favorite dark chocolate to a microwave-safe bowl. Stir the chocolate until it’s completely melted, then mix in the ground coffee beans. Turn off the microwave, place the bowl on top of the bowl of chocolate. Allow the mixture to sit for 1 hour. After 1 hour, cover the bowl of coffee beans with a plate. Let the coffee beans sit for an additional 20 minutes to cool. Once the beans are cool, remove them from the bowl. Next, pour chocolate on top of the ground coffee beans. The coffee beans can be stored in a jar or wrapped in wax paper for a week.
