Brat Recipes
Brats are not only for grilling, but they can also be made in the oven. Bratwurst are a type of sausages that are spiced with fennel, or finnickles in German. They are typically pork, although many varieties exist. Brats are also a favorite of mine. So, I thought I would share some brat recipes with you. As a general rule, when using a recipe with brats, always check the bratwurst packaging to see if any ingredients should be pre-dried. Ingredients that should be pre-dried include onions, celery, and green peppers. Ingredients that should not be pre-dried include garlic, potatoes, and spices. If a recipe calls for brats that do not have to be dried, I recommend using them within a couple of days. Otherwise, they will taste different than they did when they were new.
What Are Brats?
Brats are whole or half pork legs that are cut from the shank and shredded. The meat is cut into bite-size pieces. They can be cooked on the grill, pan seared, or even in the oven. They are good as sandwiches or just as an appetizer. They can be served with corn or potatoes. Brats are usually served with mustard, barbecue sauce, and/or ketchup.
