This is a great way to cook dried chickpeas, however, you will need a strainer for this as the liquid will be trapped in the hole. A fine mesh strainer works best for this, however, you can use a coffee filter or even a clean dishtowel as a substitute. I find using the dishtowel is the easiest.
What To Add to Chickpeas
Canned chickpeas are great for making dips or salads. You can just throw the chickpeas into a pot of boiling water, then simmer them for a few minutes. They’ll be ready to eat. You can also cook them in a pan with a little oil, some spices, and maybe some vegetables. You can do this with any beans, but canned chickpeas tend to be a bit drier than other beans. Cook them until they’re tender. If you’d like, you can add water or stock to your pot of beans. This will make the beans more creamy and give you a smoother consistency.

The easiest way to cook a can of chickpeas is in the slow cooker. Add a can of chickpeas to the slow cooker pot and add enough water to cover the chickpeas. Add a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of oil. Cover and cook on high for 8 hours or low for 5 hours. Add another 1/2 cup of water and turn the heat to high. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. They are done when there is no more liquid left.

Here’s how to make chickpeas tasty. *Try using chickpeas in place of white beans. *Prepare chickpeas in advance and reheat them. *Use the same spices you use to make hummus. *Prepare chickpeas in hot water instead of cold water. *Add some fresh herbs. *Add chopped onions to improve the flavor.
Other Tips
All the ingredients should be measured and prepped before you start cooking. This will save a lot of time and confusion. If you’re baking or cooking with flour, you should always use a food processor or the equivalent for grinding small amounts of flour. Flour can be expensive, so you don’t want to waste it. The oil in a food processor may get too hot to use, so you should always use a separate measuring cup to measure the oil.
