Salmon has become a favorite ingredient among consumers in the United States and Canada. It is well-known for its super-healthy fats, lean protein and omega-3 fatty acids. However, cooking salmon requires a little bit of practice, especially for beginners. This is because there are several steps involved in preparing this delicacy. And if the cooking process is not done properly, salmon can end up tasting dry, gamy and tough.

How to cook salmon fillet in a pan?
Salmon fillets are a good source of protein and they are a quick and easy dinner to cook. It’s best to buy it in a package, but if you prefer you can buy it pre-cooked. A fillet of salmon will typically weigh anywhere from 500 to 1,000 grams. To ensure that you have enough to eat, you’ll need to cook two pieces per person. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius. Lay the salmon fillets in a heavy-based ovenproof pan, and cover with non-stick baking paper. Then, season with salt and pepper. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes. The salmon should be fully cooked. Remove the salmon from the pan, and allow it to cool down before serving.
Steam the fillet
While steam roasting in a hot oven is a fantastic way to cook salmon, the best results come from steaming. Steam roasting results in an evenly cooked, moist salmon fillet with a subtle smoky flavor. The fillet is cooked by steaming at high heat to cook the fish from the outside in. Fillets are cooked with steam in a steamer basket on a pan or plate over a saucepan of boiling water. This method allows the fish to cook without drying out or toughening up. Cook over low heat for about 10 minutes per inch of thickness at a temperature of 195F to 225F. The steaming begins immediately and the fish continues to cook at the same temperature.
Heat the pan
If you’re planning to cook your salmon in a pan, you’ll need to heat the pan to the desired temperature before adding the salmon. Start by heating the pan on medium-high heat for 5 minutes. Place the pan over medium-high heat until the pan starts to smoke. Once the pan is hot enough, add the butter to the pan and swirl the pan to coat. Once the pan is hot and the butter is melted, place the salmon into the pan.
Reduce the heat
Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F). Take a large ovenproof frying pan, brush the surface with a little bit of oil and season it well. Heat the pan over a medium heat until it is very hot. Meanwhile, place the salmon on a large, clean plate, and season well.
