Everyone has different motivations, so we should try to understand why we think certain things are important to us and why others think differently. Most importantly, though, remember that helping somebody is an act of kindness. So, try not to take it personally when you are asked to lend a hand. Remember that it takes a great deal of courage to step forward and ask someone to share their resources. Even if they are unwilling to give you money, consider offering them some kind of service. Maybe they need a ride to work, maybe they have a friend who needs a lift, perhaps they know someone whose car broke down and they can offer to drive them somewhere. Whatever it may be, let them know that they matter to you and that whatever you do, please do it with love. Try to remember to be kind to yourself as well. Be kinder to others than to me.
