Although many people enjoy bratwurst cooked in different ways, one thing is for sure—none of these methods will change the taste of the bratwurst.
The Meat
We just recently became regulars at the new Applebee’s near our house, and they served up these bratwurst sandwiches that are really quite tasty. These sandwiches are called the veggie option in Applebee’s menu. They’re made with black bean sauce, red pepper, Italian spices, mushrooms, and grated cheddar. So, how does Applebee’s prepare the sausage patties for this sandwich? They simply cook them on the stove. It’s not a complex method, and it yields delicious results. Just heat some oil in a pan, then add your bratwurst and brown them. Next, add some mushrooms, cheddar, and black beans to the pan. Cook the brats and the beans for 3-4 minutes, then flip and cook them for another 3-4 minutes. The important thing is to brown the brats, which will help them retain more flavor.

You then place the brat onto a piece of foil and using the cooking spray, place the brat on the top rack of your oven for about 10 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. Now that’s brats cooking!

How To Prepare The Ingredients
Ingredients for this recipe are mostly pantry items. You’ll need to work with a very high heat for this recipe, so make sure your pan is completely dry and at least cast iron.
