For the past few years, my husband has been known to air fry food. On a handful of occasions, I’ve also successfully air-fried various vegetables. In recent years, I’ve been toying with the idea of air frying asparagus spears, since asparagus is one of my favorite vegetables. It’s actually quite easy to air fry asparagus, and the results are tasty.

How To Cook Asparagus

The easiest way to cook asparagus is to boil it. Place asparagus in a large pot, and cover with salted water. Bring the water to a boil, and then simmer for 3 minutes. Drain and immediately place asparagus in a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking. When asparagus is cool, remove the stalks from the stems, and chop into bite-sized pieces. Lightly coat asparagus with olive oil, and season with salt. To avoid mushy asparagus, not all the way down to the bottom, asparagus will need to be seasoned and cooked again.

How To Keep Asparagus From Going Green

Cooking asparagus is delicious, but it can also be a very frustrating experience. The tricky thing about asparagus is that its natural ingredients include some chemicals that turn it from its usual vibrant green color to the duller, swampy green color that you see when you cook it. To keep your asparagus green while cooking, try these tips. First, asparagus is best when it’s just lightly cooked. Most asparagus that you see in grocery stores has been steamed, which is fine, but if you are going to purchase asparagus that has been kept in the refrigerator, make sure it is fresh and very tightly wrapped. This will keep the asparagus fresh and allow the cooking steam to escape, which will keep the asparagus from going green. This also goes for those asparagus that you purchase when you’re ready to cook it. You can store it in the refrigerator, but that will also keep it from going green. If you have asparagus that hasn’t gone green when you cook it, take it out of the refrigerator at least an hour before you plan to cook it, and then put the stalks into a bowl of water. The asparagus will absorb some of the nutrients from the water and it will go back to its vibrant green color, which will make the cooking process much less of a headache.

How to Prepare Asparagus

Here is an easy and quick way to prepare asparagus for dipping or eating. First, cut off the asparagus tips. If you want to be fancy, you can sprinkle them with a little sea salt and pepper. If you prefer, you can leave the asparagus whole. Either way, slice each piece of asparagus in half lengthwise. Then, cut each half into three or four pieces lengthwise. Now, put the asparagus in a bowl and pour 1/2 to 2/3 cup of water into the bowl. Let the asparagus soak for a few minutes. Then, put the bowl in the refrigerator and let the asparagus sit until it is ready to cook. This process will keep the asparagus very fresh. Next, heat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Transfer the asparagus to a pan or wok and drizzle 1/2 to 3/4 cup of vegetable oil onto the asparagus. Place the pan in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes. Now, remove the pan from the oven and the asparagus from the pan. Let the asparagus cool to room temperature.
