The legend of the pizza being invented on March 17 goes back to the 1800s when a baker from Boston named Carlo Aiello was tired of throwing out some batch of sliced bread. He didn’t have time to bake the bread, and he wanted to make the bread into something that was a bit more interesting. He mixed a soda, a shortening, and a powder together and the result was the soda bread. Then he sprinkled sugar on top of the cake and it became a cake. Soon, that cake became the pizza. This legend has come from the book “Tales of the Baking Industry” which was published in 1883. The author of the book was a bakers’ journal that published on the history of Boston bread. That book is the only source that we have about the origins of the pizza. There are a lot of other pizza variations out there, but the pizza is believed to have come from the famous “Chicago Pizza” which is made with tomato, onion, and cheese.
