We spend a significant amount of money on pizza, but not everyone is willing to tip the pizza delivery man. Many people feel that it’s only fair to tip pizza delivery workers less, as they are not the one delivering the food. Here’s how much you should tip a pizza delivery worker.
Do we tip delivery drivers?
Delivery drivers are one of the few jobs in which it is standard practice to tip. Generally speaking, it is considered customary to tip between 10% and 20% of the delivery fee. The larger the tip, the more effective the service. This is because the driver has a larger amount of discretionary income, which can be used for things other than income. This can include buying coffee for the customer or even giving the driver a ride back to their home.
How much to tip your pizza delivery
The best way to tip your pizza delivery is to round up to the nearest dollar. In most states, the minimum amount you can tip a delivery driver is 20%. Additionally, most delivery services add a delivery fee. Some services charge 25 to 30% of the total amount, which is around 3 to 4 dollars. When the pizza delivery driver arrives, they’ll be wearing a uniform and may or may not have a to-go cup in their hands. This is different than when you order food from a restaurant, where the to-go cup may be filled with your order.
The economics of tipping
At least you can order a pizza in your own home instead of driving to a pizza place. However, if you want to get a pizza delivered to your house, you’ll need to tip the delivery driver. Of course, how much to tip a delivery driver varies by city. In many cities, delivery drivers will ask you to tip 15% or 20%. But don’t feel like you have to tip that much. Tips are completely optional, and many drivers will be happy if you tip just a couple of dollars. It’s also not a bad idea to tip more than expected. Many delivery drivers will feel bad if you tip too little, so if they think you tip too little, they’ll be extra pleasant and maybe even bring you a coupon or free pizza!
