How Many Hours Does Walmart Work?

In most states, it is illegal to have an employee work more than 40 hours per week. So, how many hours does Walmart actually work? The Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division has made a report that says that in 2006, Walmart paid $7.13 per hour, and more than 30,000 employees reported that they worked overtime. So, assuming every employee works at least 40 hours, that means that Walmart probably paid $1.2 billion dollars to their employees in overtime. Of course, this number is probably low, since not all employees work every hour. So, based on what the company is paying and the number of hours that employees work, it’s estimated that Walmart pays about $3.5 billion dollars in overtime to its employees.

Walmart gives employees a lot of freedom to decide how they want to work, but they also have certain rules and regulations that workers must follow.
