I love animals and feel very connected to the planet. I also like eating nutritious food and don’t like being sick. So, I have decided to be a vegetarian. A lot of people think that this is an impossible lifestyle change. However, it’s definitely possible, if you are willing to do some research and commit to the lifestyle. Most of us don’t understand the true impact of what we eat. So, being a vegetarian can actually help you to save more money, consume less energy and even help you live a healthier life. This is one of my passions and I’d like to share what I’ve learned with you.
How Many Vegetarians There Are?
It’s estimated that approximately 300 million people are vegetarian. This number accounts for all vegetarians including vegans. This is only a small fraction of the total population though. In fact, it’s estimated that only about 5% of the world’s population are vegetarian. If you’re curious, the global population in 2017 was estimated to be 7.7 billion. So, that means that there are roughly 3.4 billion vegetarians worldwide.
What Is a Vegetarian?
A vegetarian is someone who does not eat any meat or meat products. Some vegetarians eat fish and seafood, but they do not eat any meat. Others choose to eat eggs and dairy products but don’t eat meat. Some vegetarians also eat vegetables and grains, but don’t eat meat. Vegetarianism is not just a diet; it’s a lifestyle. Most vegetarians choose to eat this way because they think eating a vegetarian diet is healthier. Vegetarians eat less red meat, which is one of the main reasons many people choose to eat vegetarian. Additionally, vegetarians are usually thinner than meat eaters, and they typically have fewer health problems. However, vegetarians do not eat all the different types of meat. For instance, some vegetarians eat fish and shellfish. Others don’t eat poultry or pork.
