This is a question I’ve been asked before, and the question has more than a few different ways of answering. Here’s the general idea behind how a shot is consumed. The liquid is poured into the glass and shaken until it’s mixed well. The shot glass is then held in the hand and the alcohol is poured into the mouth, over the tongue and behind the teeth. The liquid is then swallowed and the shot glass is then tossed away. The entire process should take about 30 to 60 seconds. But there’s no hard and fast rule on the correct way to consume a shot. Some people like to slowly swish the shot in the mouth to let it coat the tongue. Others prefer to chug the shot in one gulp. And still others prefer to sip the shot and hold it in their mouth before swallowing. But the most important rule of thumb is to keep the shot glass out of the reach of children or pets.
