Of all the nutrition studies that have been done, the calories on a PB&J sandwich may be the one that is the least understood. The first ingredient is peanut butter, which is high in calories at 213 per tablespoon. But that’s just one ingredient. The second ingredient is jelly, which is made with white grape juice, and also high in calories. White grape juice contains 64 calories per cup. So, that puts you at 294 calories for that sandwich, which is about half of the average American’s daily caloric intake.
Peanut Butter and Jelly Calories
The calories on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich are around 45 for the entire sandwich, with one slice of bread and one tablespoon of peanut butter. Peanut butter has around 65 calories per tablespoon, and it is packed with good fat. You can get away with eating around 3-4 tablespoons of peanut butter for a snack. So, if you are thinking about making this sandwich at home, you can get away with two slices of bread and up to 6 tablespoons of peanut butter.
Can Peanut Butter and Jelly Be Healthy?
Peanut butter and jelly make a great combination for a sandwich, but they don’t typically give you a lot of nutrition. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich has around 120 calories, which is more than other combinations of bread and filling. However, you can make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich more nutritious by adding fruits to your sandwich. For example, you can use sliced apples or bananas, which contain nutrients like vitamin C, potassium, and fiber. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a great way to add some flavor to a sandwich, but they’re not nutritious. Try adding some fruits to your sandwiches to improve your nutrition and feel full!
