To Boil or Not to Boil?
We have been using a particular technique when boiling eggs for hard boiled eggs. But how long do we need to let the eggs boil? This is a technique that differs from person to person. To boil eggs properly, it is not essential to put the eggs in water, or even start the water. The eggs just need to come in contact with boiling water.
Soft Boiled Eggs
Soft boiled eggs are typically cooked by boiling them for about 6 minutes in a covered pot. Once the eggs are cooked, the eggs are placed in ice water to stop them from cooking further. Then, the eggs are placed in the refrigerator for about 10 to 12 minutes. The ice water allows the eggs to harden slightly. Soft boiled eggs can be eaten hot or cold. This can be a great recipe for holiday meals. Or, you can use this recipe to hard boil eggs for the entire week.
Is 7 Minutes Enough?
There are many factors that can affect the cooking time for hard boiled eggs. One of the most important is the size of the egg. The larger the egg, the longer it will take to cook. The cooking time is shorter for eggs that are closer to room temperature. When purchasing hard boiled eggs, look for eggs that are at least 95% hard. Hard-boiled eggs should be firm and opaque. They should not be wet.
How to Store Eggs
It is important to store hard-boiled eggs properly. Although they will not be harmed by improper storage, they will lose some of their flavor and firmness after a few days in the refrigerator.
