Corn is one of the easiest crops to grow. In fact, most corn is eaten as fresh corn on the cob, but it can also be frozen and later used in dishes like cornbread, corn chips, and casseroles. Although most ears of corn can be easily peeled and eaten right away, the kernels should be cooked before eating to allow them to cool down. Cooking frozen corn takes about the same amount of time as cooking fresh corn, although it will take longer.
Why Does Frozen Corn Take So Long To Cook?
If you’re planning on making corn on the cob over the weekend, you may be a little concerned that it will take too long to cook. This is because it freezes quickly and because it’s easy to over-cook the corn. The best way to cook frozen corn is in the microwave. For this reason, it’s important to only buy frozen corn that’s marked as “microwave safe.” Frozen corn that’s labeled “do not microwave” should be considered past its use-by date. You should only cook corn on the cob in the microwave for about 3 minutes per cob. This will heat it through and ensure that it’s not frozen on the inside. Additionally, when you’re cooking corn in the microwave, you’ll want to be sure to add more water than you normally would. This will ensure that the corn is fully cooked and avoids drying out.
How Do You Tell When Frozen Corn on the Cob Is Ready?
Frozen corn is easily cooked when it is still frozen. As long as you let it thaw slightly before boiling, you can use it in any recipe that calls for cooked corn. Frozen corn has a longer shelf life than fresh corn, so it’s not difficult to keep it in your freezer for weeks at a time. However, you don’t want to cook frozen corn straight out of the freezer. When it’s frozen, the corn is less able to absorb nutrients and absorb flavors. You can cook frozen corn like you would fresh corn. Put the frozen corn in a pot of boiling water. Add a little salt and cook it for 7 to 10 minutes, or until tender. Add a little lemon juice if you want the corn a little more tangy.
How Long To Cook Frozen Corn
To cook frozen corn, you will first need to thaw the corn. To thaw frozen corn, place it into a pan or bowl and fill with cold water. Stir the corn to keep the kernels from sticking together and place the corn back into the freezer. Once the corn is thawed, drain and rinse the corn under cold water. Then, place the corn into a microwave safe container with the kernels up. Add one tablespoon of butter to the container and cover with plastic wrap. Microwave the container for 8 minutes, or until the kernels are tender. Remove the container from the microwave and let it cool for 3 to 5 minutes.
