How Long To Cook A 19 Pound Turkey
As the weather warms up, we tend to cook outside more. The temperature outdoors is perfect for roasting a turkey, but you’ll need to keep an eye on it. The first thing to do is put a cooking thermometer in the neck of the bird. This is a good idea for other foods too, but most important when cooking a turkey. The thermometer will be the first indication of doneness. It should register 170 degrees F in the thickest part of the thigh. Once the thermometer registers that, remove the bird from the oven. The turkey should have a light brown skin, and it will look a bit spongy. The temperature should be 165 degrees F in the breast meat. This will be difficult to get an accurate reading with a thermometer, so the best way to tell if your turkey is done is by slicing it. The breast should have a nice pinkish color, but not be mushy.
