What does sell by date mean chicken?
The ‘sell by‘ period refers specifically to meat and poultry products. This means that the meat or poultry will be safe for consumption for 10 consecutive days. If the item is kept in proper storage conditions, this period can extend beyond 10 weeks. For example, meat products such as beef, pork, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy products, etc. can stay fresh for about 5 months. Some foods suchas fruit and vegetables do not have sell-bys. They are generally safe until they are consumed. However, there are some foods that are not safe even after being consumed for longer than 10 years.
How can you tell if chicken is bad?
If your bird is past all of these, this is a sign that it has become bad, rotten, spoiled, dead, etc. If you notice any of those symptoms, toss it immediately.
