Parsnips are one of the most underrated root vegetables. They are absolutely delicious and versatile. If you have never cooked with them, you are in for a real treat. Parsnips are closely related to carrots. They are in the same family as carrots, but can be distinguished by their leafy and serrated tops. The stalks can be peeled, cut into chunks, and then roasted or boiled. Parsnips can be eaten raw or cooked. For maximum flavor, boil or roast the parsnips with a little salt and pepper. The starchy root has a crisp texture that is excellent on its own, but also works well in soups and vegetable dishes.
How Do You Cook Parsnips?
Parsnips are one of the root vegetables in the onion family. There are two main varieties: the wild, or Jerusalem, parsnip and the domesticated, or garden, parsnip. Parsnips have a mild flavor, with a slightly sweet root that is often cooked, roasted, or boiled. These roots can be used raw, although they can be quite fibrous. Parsnips are often prepared in a similar way to carrots. They can be added to soups and stews, roasted, or boiled. They can also be braised. You can add them to breads and cakes.
How To Store Parsnips?
Another important thing to know about parsnips is to store them in a cool, dry place. Do this by placing them in the refrigerator for up to five days or in the freezer for up to six months. Make sure to wash parsnips under running water before storing, as parsnips can absorb soil particles and become discolored.
How Do You Make Parsnip Chips?
I’ve been making homemade parsnip chips recently and they are amazing. They are super crunchy and delicious. They are perfect for serving as an appetizer or side dish. You can even add them to salads or sandwiches for a tasty and nutritious snack. A simple way to make parsnip chips is to take the parsnips, wash them and then cut them in small wedges. To keep them crispy, it’s important to bake them at the right temperature. Parsnips tend to go mushy when they are cooked at temperatures higher than 200 degrees Fahrenheit. I’ve also been making them into a dip by heating some fresh goat cheese and adding some cayenne pepper.
How To Make Parsnip Soup

How To Roast Parsnips
For this recipe, you’ll need to use parsnips that are about the same size as your thumb. Peel the parsnips and place them in a roasting dish. They can be either in halves or in quarters. Pour some olive oil into the dish and roast the parsnips for about 35-40 minutes. You’ll want to turn them around after about 20 minutes, then turn them for the remaining 15 minutes. The roasted parsnips should have a nice, toasty aroma. Remove them from the oven, and allow them to cool before you eat them.
