How to Make a Caramel Pie
When thinking of caramel pie, you probably picture a big slab of chocolate sandwiched between two layers of caramel. But, you probably don’t think of it with a pecan topping. That’s because the caramel layer in a pecan pie has only a few main ingredients — sugar, butter, and milk. To make this pie, you will need a good chocolate pie crust. To help with the process, I used my Deep Fried Pie Crust (but you can use this pie crust in any type of pie). You will also need 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream, 3/4 cup of packed brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, 1 1/2 tablespoons of pure vanilla extract, 1 egg, and 1/2 cup of pecans. In a heavy saucepan, bring 1 1/2 cups of the cream and the brown sugar to a boil. Once the cream comes to a boil, add the butter and stir well until the butter is melted. Continue to cook on a medium heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture reaches 238° F. In a medium bowl, whisk together the remaining cream, vanilla, and egg. With the saucepan still on the stove, pour the cream mixture into the saucepan, whisking constantly. Whisk the mixture until it is all combined and smooth. Pour the mixture into a lightly oiled 9″ pie shell. Place in the freezer for 15 minutes to cool completely. In a food processor
Making Recipes
We’re not sure where we first encountered the classic German chocolate cake, but we’ve made it many times since. It’s so easy to make, and it’s one of our favorite desserts to make for friends and family for birthdays and special occasions. Our recipe is made with a very basic chocolate cake recipe, made with white chocolate and pecans, with a whipped cream filling.
