How Long Does a Baked Potato Take To Cook?

The length of time to cook a baked potato depends on how well you cook the potato. I am not saying that you need to be a chef to cook a baked potato. While it might be great to have a fancy new oven, that doesn’t mean you have to follow a recipe. The most important thing to remember is to keep an eye on the potato. Potatoes vs. Starchy Vegetables

Although potatoes and starchy vegetables are often lumped together, the two are quite different. A baked potato is a tuber, and a starchy vegetable is a root, legume, or leaf vegetable. Potatoes have a much higher carbohydrate content than starchy vegetables. The carbohydrate content of potatoes is approximately 60%, while the carbohydrate content of starchy vegetables is approximately 17%. Potatoes contain more protein, but less fiber than starchy vegetables. Potatoes are also higher in sodium than starchy vegetables, and very high in fiber.

What’s The Secret Sauce?

The secret to the perfect baked potato? Time. You want the potato to be super soft and fluffy when you take it out of the oven. But it shouldn’t be mush. It should be crispy on the outside and warm and fluffy on the inside. So, the rule of thumb is to bake it for about the same amount of time as the potato is going to take to cook. Now, there’s always going to be a little bit of variance here. With a lot of potatoes, like 8 or 10, you might want to bake them a little longer to get that perfect fluffy-crisp baked potato texture. But for the most part, about 20 minutes should be enough to get the results you’re looking for.
