If you’re baking in an oven with convection, then the ideal bake time is 15 minutes per pound. When cooking at home, you can usually use the oven’s built-in thermometer to determine when to flip your whole chicken. Just remember that whole chickens are heavier than smaller pieces, so you should expect to cook longer. This is why you see whole chickens cook for approximately an hour. However, if you’re cooking a whole chicken for an hour or more, you’ll want to determine when it is done by checking the meat’s internal temperature. The internal temperature of a whole chicken should be 165 degrees.
