For example, protein can be further broken down into subcategories including: total protein, essential protein, non-essential protein, high-quality protein, and low-quality protein. Fat and carbohydrate are also broken down into subcategories. For example, fat can be further broken down into saturated fat, unsaturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, and fatty acids. And carbohydrates can be further broken down into simple carbohydrates, complex carbohydrates, and dietary fiber.

Calorie is a measure of energy. One calorie is equal to 1 kilocalorie. A kilocalorie is equal to 1000 calories. Food contains a certain amount of calories per serving. This is how much energy the food has. This amount is called the energy or calories content. Most foods that are high in energy are high in sugar, sodium, and fat. These high energy foods are usually the foods that are bad for you and lead to weight gain. Eating foods that are low in energy can help you lose weight.
