While the name of a hamburger comes from the United States of America, it’s commonly known as a hamburger regardless of where you live. And this goes to show how versatile the hamburger is. This sandwich consists of two slices of bread with meat and a bunch of other delicious and filling food items. The main ingredients of a hamburger are beef, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese, and it is sometimes garnished with more toppings like onions, ketchup, or mustard. The sandwich was created in Germany and it’s believed that it was created by a chef named Gustav Kahl. He used to work at a bakery in Munich and after trying a lot of sandwiches, he came up with the idea of a sandwich with a patty of meat in between two slices of bread. His idea caught on, and it was named the Kahl burger. However, it wasn’t until the 1920s that the hamburger was even thought of as being named the hamburger. And the first hamburger to be sold was created by a hamburger joint in Vienna called The Palace. It wasn’t until the 1960s that the American fast food restaurant McDonald’s started selling hamburgers in the United States. Today, there are a lot of variations of the hamburger. For instance, there is the hot dog, steak sandwich, and even the Mexican taco. So, you can see how versatile the hamburger can be.

What is a hamburger?
