Is Good Friday a Jewish Holiday?

The feast of Passover commemorates the Israelites’ escape from slavery in Egypt. Although celebrated on the 15th of the Jewish month of Nisan, this is called “Passover” because of a certain Biblical detail. According to the passage (see Exod 12:26), the Israelites ate a meal of unleavened bread and bitter herbs. The 13th of this month is therefore called the “Feast of Unleavened Bread.” After the Exodus, Israelites celebrated the 15th of the month as the Feast of Passover. The month of Nisan was originally the month of Passover, and the feast was celebrated on the 15th. The day after the Passover is therefore called the “Feast of the Firstfruits.” The Hebrew phrase that expresses this feast is Shavuot (שבוטו).
